Hen party fatality in M62 crash
A minibus carrying women travelling to a hen party has crashed on the M62 motorway, causing the death of one of the women and injuring 19 others, six of them seriously, says the BBC this afternoon.
West Yorkshire Police have declared the accident a major incident, resulting in both carriageways of the M62 motorway being closed by officials. The accident happened when the minibus collided with a lorry around junction 32 westbound just before mid-day today (26th April). The hen party consisted of women understood to have been travelling from South Elmsall near Wakefield, to Liverpool. Five Fire and Rescue crews were sent to the scene of the horrific accident, with officers calling it "the worst they had seen for a number of years". A number of bystanders joined in to help the rescue operation, which saw the minibus land on its side, severely damaged. Casualties of the accident were taken to local hospitals in the area, including Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield. The driver of the lorry was arrested by West Yorkshire Police.
