The family of five were travelling on the A18 road in their Nissan Primera in Laceby, when the car collided with a lorry on Friday afternoon. Three members of the family, who were from the Durham area died at the scene, and two others passed away from their injuries in Grimsby's Diana Princess of Wales hospital later that day. Humberside police said that the driver of the lorry sustained just minor injuries. Police also said that it was too early to speculate about the cause of the accident, which happed around 12.30pm. It was thought that the family were travelling to the seaside resort of Skegness. The particular stretch of road around Grimsby has been featured on TV's Britain's Most Dangerous Roads in 2011, in which it has been claimed that the A18 is 25 times more dangerous than an average motorway. It has seen 20 crashes in the last three years. The Road Safety Foundation also found that it was the UK's highest risk stretch of road in the UK.
