M602
The M602 is a 9.7 miles long motorway located in Greater Manchester, England. It forms part of the boundary of Salford and Manchester. The motorway was opened in 1970 as part of the M62, before becoming a separate motorway in 1981. The M602 has become increasingly congested in recent years due to it being an important link between Salford and Manchester.
In terms of safety, the M602 has seen an overall reduction in the number of collisions and injuries over the last decade. In 2008, the M602 saw 262 recorded accidents, resulting in 163 casualties, however, by 2018 this had reduced to 162 accidents and 108 casualties. This decrease has been attributed to increased safety measures and improved enforcement. As part of an ongoing effort to improve safety, the Highways Agency recently completed a £2m project to install new LED lighting on the motorway.
