Regional UK Police Forces Since the 1974 government re-organisation, the UK now has many regional police forces that cover one or more local government areas and counties, also known as 'Home Office Police Forces'.

Each force is independent, and operations are controlled by the Chief Constable or Commissioner for each of the forces. With more than 33,000 police officers, the Metropolitan Police Service is the largest regional force in the UK.
