A205 (SOUTH CIRCULAR ROAD) Traffic

The A205 road in the UK is a major artery running through South London, connecting the boroughs of Richmond, Wandsworth, Lambeth, and Southwark. The road stretches from its northernmost point at Chiswick Roundabout to its southernmost point at the intersections of Clapham Park Road and Clapham Common South Side in Lambeth.

The A205 has been in use for many years, with the earliest records dating back to the late 19th century. During World War II, the road was used heavily, particularly by military vehicles and for transporting goods.

Today, the A205 is one of the busiest roads in South London, carrying approximately 80,000 vehicles each day. During the morning rush hour there is usually significant congestion from motorists travelling from outer London areas into the city centre. The heaviest traffic flows can be found at the junctions nearest the City Centre such as the Parsons Green, Nine Elms Lane and Chiswick Roundabout junctions.

In terms of safety, the A205 has a good record. Compared to many other roads in London, it has a lower rate of fatal collisions, with the most recent data from 2019 showing nine fatal incidents in the local authority area compared to 15 the year before. Additionally, the average number of injury collisions has declined steadily over the past seven years.
