The A111 is a major road in the United Kingdom connecting the towns of Barnet and Potters Bar in Hertfordshire. It was opened in 1933 as a primary route for cars and goods transport between the two towns and over the last eighty years has become a heavily used commuter and goods route as the towns grew and developed.
The busiest times on the road tend to be rush hour, although the majority of traffic is commuter traffic with many people making their way to London or the surrounding towns during these times. During holiday periods, or when the weather is nice, the traffic on the A111 road can become impacted with increased usage especially on the weekends.
Generally speaking the road is considered safe and is well policed and patrolled with good visibility. In recent years technology advancements such as smart roads, cameras, signage and improved road markings have been added to the route to increase safety and provide better feedback to motorists.
