a107

The A107 is an A road in London, England. It runs from Homerton Road and Homerton High Street in Hackney to Whipps Cross and Leytonstone High Road in Waltham Forest. It then continues through Chingford on Chingford Mount Road, Chingford Road, Kings Road and Chingford Green and St James Street, then crossing Epping Forest and finally meeting the A120 near North Weald in Essex.

The A107 has existed in some form since at least the 1920s, when it was used as part of an express route from London to Hertfordshire. In the 1960s it was upgraded to become part of the London Outer Ring Road between Whipps Cross and Homerton.

The busiest time is during the morning rush hour, that is, between 7am and 9am. The volume of traffic then drops off until the evening rush hour, which is between 5pm and 7pm. During this time, the A107 is often very congested, especially nearer to the Homerton Traffic Lights.

The road itself generally has good levels of safety. However, it is important for pedestrians to take care when crossing the busy road, as far too many accidents have occurred due to people not watching where they are going.

In the British Department for Transport's most recent statistics, it has been reported that the A107 has an above average accident rate for a busier A road, with approximately 5.4 accidents per kilometre in the 2009/10 period. This rate has decreased significantly in the past decade and is now below the UK average for A roads.
